Luckily, if you are considering moving to Ithaca know that this is a very friendly place. People are highly supportive of each other and their community. This is the sort of place that strangers are willing to give you directions and lend assistance. Community involvement is so prevalent here that Ithaca has one of the highest percentages of community volunteerism in the nation. Being a town of approximately thirty thousand you see people again and again. Having Cornell and Ithaca College located here keeps the economy strong and in motion.


The downtown area of Ithaca surrounds an area called “The Commons”. This is the heart of downtown. There are many bars, restaurants, and stores located within these 3 blocks. These commercial establishments have a website with further information http://www.downtownithaca.com/.


Also downtown you will find the various government buildings. To include:

-City Hall located at 108 East Green Street. The number there is (607) 274-6570. The Department of Public Works is located in the same building. The number is (607) 272-1718.

-The Post Office is also downtown at 213 Tioga Street. (607) 272-5455.

-The County Court House is located at 320 North Tioga Street. (607) 277-4859.

-The City library is located on 101 East Green Street. Their phone number is (607) 272-4557.

 

All the major retail and home improvement stores are located at the South end of town on Route 13. Just off Route 13 North at the Triphammer Road exit is the local mall and other shopping plazas.
